This year for July 4th, we found ourselves in the sleepy little town of San Luis Obispo. We went to a very charming store and restaurant called Apple Farm. (It was a hotel too... Think we'll try to stay there next time!)
As we headed to our seat, I was struck by display of really lovely little quilts. Each was in a frame, protected and well preserved. After getting permission, I snapped some photos because I thought you might like them too!
First, check out the X Blocks... you can do that with Sharyn Craig's technique from Layer Em Up!
I have always loved two-color quilts... this one is wonderful with the schoolhouses!
What is July 4th without flags!?.....
... and patriotic hearts
Now I have to admit that all of the quilts above are dated 1987. Although they look really old, they are pretty modern. But the ones below have much order dates. This one is dated 1897! I believe it too. I suspect this one came first and the other were commissioned to make the display. Many of the quilts above were made by Cindee Robinson.
This one has a date os 1876. ... could it really be? I'm going to go with yes.
So if you are ever in San Luis Obispo, look up Apple Farn, a very country, very cute treasure, just on the edge of town.
